Comms Lead for Digital Transformation of £3.7bn Engineering Organisation
Digitalisation Communications Lead, Subsea 7, 2019 - 2020 & 2021
I led internal and client engagement for a global Digitalisation programme that introduced market-leading digital systems and next-gen technologies to transform how this $3.7bn engineering company operated internally and externally.
The Digitalisations programme’s core objective was to utilise digital technologies to improve its internal operations and project delivery. This included quite standard, ‘to be expected’ digital products like financial SAP modules, and digital task planners. But it also included next-gen products such as augmented and virtual reality headsets, wearable devices, physical drones and powerful sensor hardware.
I developed and owned the Digitalisation programme’s engagement strategy, brand and messaging, channel selection, and content plan. This included creating a compelling vision, mission and purpose statement that played a crucial role in the company’s global internal communications, and which featured prominently in client pitches. I contributed significantly to a successful pitch to become a Digital Partner to Shell for 5-years. I also owned other core strategic initiatives aligned to Digitalisation, including all internal communications for the integration of a new technology company acquired by Subsea 7 to accelerate its digitalisation capabilities.
My communications often focused on new software deployments that improved finance, supply and procurement and design workflows. I either owned all communications deliverables for a technology deployment, or developed the communications approach for process teams to adapt and own.
After an initial 12-month contract, I re-joined the programme to oversee a refresh of the programme messaging, and to manage comms on a couple of significant SAP product deployments to enhance finance and sourcing and procurement workflows.
